Course 19 Power chord [Acoustic guitar lesson for geginner]

What is a power chord?

A power chord is a chord that consists of the root and the fifth interval.
The power chord does not have the character note of the third interval and therefore its form does not have any distinction between the major and the minor.
The chord has a strong sound and therefore widely used in the lower lines.
Among its various forms, the forms with their basis on the sixth and fifth strings are most frequently used.

The location of the perfect fifth in guitar is the lower line behind 2 frets of the root.

In addition, the line right below the perfect fifth of the sixth and the fifth strings is a root above an octave.

Chord form

As shown in the following picture, bend the end of your finger which presses the string and place the rest fingers lightly on other strings.
If you press the strings in such a way, you can stay mute for the strings that you don't need to press and therefore you can get a clear sound.
Use the rest fingers to press in the same way.

It is usually played in two lines but sometimes the playing also includes the root above an octave.

Root of the sixth string

How to press it with the first, the third and the fourth fingers.

You may make a sound with 2 lines only but it would also be fine to press the root above an octave.

How to press 2 lines simultaneously with the little finger

Description

When holding a power chord either in C major or in C minor, those two chords have the same form and therefore the chord is usually not described. However, its formal description is "C5"
